Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) has successfully acquired advanced nursing skills lab equipment through a partnership with Erasmushogeschool Brussels, funded by the VLIR-ITP project. This initiative focuses on training midwives in low-fidelity simulated emergency management for mothers and newborns (EMONC), addressing critical gaps in maternal and neonatal healthcare.

The new equipment, including mannequins and delivery simulators, allows students to practice essential skills like neonatal resuscitation and managing postpartum hemorrhage in a safe, controlled environment. This hands-on training is vital for improving emergency response capabilities, particularly in resource-limited settings where maternal and neonatal mortality rates remain high.

JOOUST’s collaboration with Erasmushogeschool Brussels highlights the power of international partnerships in advancing healthcare education. By investing in innovative training methods, JOOUST is paving the way for a healthier future, aligning with global efforts to reduce preventable deaths and ensure safer deliveries for mothers and newborns.
